Unless you’ve been in technological hibernation for the last week or so, you know that the iPhone 4 release has just happened. You also know that upon release there was a great deal of controversy surrounding iPhone 4 antenna problems, too. Even with this absolutely enormous oversight, Apple has managed to move 1.7 million iPhone 4 smartphones in just three days!
Greatest product launch ever
The iPhone 4 marks Apple’s best product launch yet, moving 1.7 million units since release day on Thursday, 24 June 2010, through Saturday, 26 June 2010. After beating his chest about the product’s early release, Jobs even added that the company would like to ‘apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply’. Can you imagine if the company did have enough in supply, how many units it would have moved? Add to that the pre-orders breaking down, now you have a better idea of just how desired Apple’s smartphone is.
Notable launch problems
As expected with the launching of such a high profile device, it was not all smooth sailing. Apple simply did not have the volume to cope with the demand, with pre-ordering breaking both Apple’s online store and carrier partner AT&T’s store, too. In addition, Apple has been at the centre of a major controversy involving the iPhone 4 antenna losing signal strength when you hold it a certain way. Ridiculous. And what was Steve Jobs’ response when this was brought to his attention? He told his customers to hold the phone another way. Insane.

Lines nevertheless
Regardless, though, long lines marked the iPhone 4 release, with Apple’s flagship store in Fifth Avenue being the centre of attention, and London’s Apple store holding the flag for the UK.
This launch marks Apple’s greatest business year ever, seeing the release of its insanely popular iPad, the iPhone 4 release, and watching its company value race past Microsoft’s.
Success is not permanent, but who dares to bet against this company in the short term? Do any of you believe the ‘wheels will fall off the bus’ anytime soon? Or is the sky the limit for Jobs and co? Share your opinion with us in the comments section.
