In a sobering reminder that nobody wins forever and everyone makes mistakes, Apple has been forced to call a special iPhone 4-related press conference. What do you think it’s for? One guess – the iPhone 4 signal issue.
Predictions
Though Apple hasn’t said any more relating to the matter, the collective web is making a prediction as to what the biggest technology firm by market cap will say. Many predict Apple will rollout free bumpers to mitigate the iPhone 4 signal issues, while others joke that Apple is simply going to reiterate their ‘hold it differently’ mantra. Worst case scenario for Apple – which we think is highly unlikely – would be a total recall of the device.
Foot in mouth

And while all of this plays out publically for Apple, the competition can’t avoid getting in jabs. At the annual Worldwide Partner’s Conference, during his keynote speech Microsoft COO Kevin Turner said, ‘It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their [Apple’s] Vista, and I’m okay with that.’ The problem with preying on Apple’s failure is Microsoft could be proven wrong yet, and they lack proper candour. Add to that the fact that Microsoft has been unbelievably wrong about the iPhone before, with CEO Steve Ballmer dismissing the iPhone wholesale as doomed to fail back when it was first announced in 2007. How wrong he was.
That’s not solace, Apple
And lest you get us wrong, we take no pity on Apple. A device that, once mobile phone subscription packages and upfront pay-ins are factored in, costs over £1,000 had better work properly. The hope is Apple will deal with the iPhone 4 signal issues, and deal with them swiftly. We hardly think this is reason enough to not buy the phone if you’re already sold on purchasing it, but we do recommend you wait for the outcome of the upcoming press conference before making the leap.
