Asus PG276H – the world’s largest 3D monitor

Popular computer technology company Asus has pulled the curtains back on its 27-inch 120Hz 3D monitor, the PG276H. This marks the largest 120Hz monitor in the market, indicating Asus’ intent to become a major force in both PC gaming, and 3D gaming, in general.
The stats
The 3D monitor has a full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 16:9. The reason the 120Hz feature is punted so much is because it means 120 frames are shown each second, compared to the traditional 60, giving a more fluid gaming experience. More importantly, though, that figure represents the minimum requirement one must have for 3D TVs or 3D monitors in order for the functionality to work as advertised, particularly with the shutter glasses.
Nvidia-powered 3D
Like other 3D-based PC monitors, Asus’ kit relies on Nvidia Geforce 3D Vision to power it. What is unknown at this point, given very little information has been brought to light about the interfacing capabilities of this monitor, is whether 3D from a different source, whether it is a 3D Blu-ray player or a PS3, will be supported.

Asus has kept mum on integration beyond just your PC, as many gamers now use monitors for gaming purposes, and it will be a huge – and expensive – disappointment if the Asus PG276H is made with only the PC in mind.
Price and availability
The Asus PG276H is due for release in June at a price range of £365 to £400. Again, you will need active shutter glasses and this monitor is designed with the Nvidia Geforce 3D Vision kit in mind, which start at about £115, changing the true price of the 3D monitor at a range of £480 to £515. The buying public will decide whether buying a 27-inch monitor for the equivalent price of a 42” high quality LCD is worth it just for a 3D monitor, though.
