People doubt us when we say we play a part in which products sink and swim. We do! True story! Remember when we said the HTC Desire was the truth? It went on to do huge numbers. Now we’ve recently said that the Samsung Galaxy S phone is the truth, and guess what? It’s doing colossal numbers, too. How much you ask? Oh, at least 2 million and counting units sold worldwide, with a million of those units sold in the US, alone.
1 million in 45 days
Samsung released a press statement (via Fortune) announcing that it took the company 45 days to cross the 1 million Samsung Galaxy S phones sold in the US mark. This follows after Samsung managed to sell a million Galaxy S phones in a quick three weeks in other markets around the world.
Why so successful?
The Fortune piece discusses why the device has been so successful, suggesting the South Korean company’s ability to build remarkable handsets at a fraction of the costs (or a fraction of the margins) others build them at is a great contributor, and we tend to agree. One also needs to remember that Samsung is central to the iPhone eco-system, providing Apple with key components in its device, meaning they’re certainly getting practice at making bits and bobs for great smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy S phone is a mere reflection of this.
HTC no longer the only player
While HTC has long been the in form Wayne Rooney of the Google Android strike force, Samsung is coming good for team Android, too, much like Dimitar Berbatov (to continue the awkward analogy) is for United. For the longest time, it seemed HTC was the only manufacturer winning big on Google Android, but with the Droid X doing well, and these Samsung Galaxy S phone numbers being so big, it’s clear Google’s mobile OS is ripe breading ground for any willing (and capable) handset manufacturer.
