Verification IP for USB 3.0 and PCI Express 3.0 Protocols by Cadence
By Jenny • Nov 28th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory NewsLots of buzz has been created about the new USB 3.0 specification recently and now its time for the 3rd version of the PCI Express to get released as well. PCI Express 3.0 is the advanced form of the current PCI Express I/O standard. It offers a 8GT/s bit rate. This clearly shows a 100 percent increase in the bandwidth over PCIe 2.0. USB 3.0 is also a remarkable improvement over USB 2.0. and will make the data travel 10 times faster.
Cadence Design Systems has announced the development of its Open Verification Methodology (OVM) verification IP (VIP) for USB 3.0 and PCI Express 3.0 high speed protocols. Their VIP is compliant with over 30 different protocols including PCI Express, Ethernet, USB and SATA found on numerous devices, such as external hard drives. It will let the Cadence customers design and verify next generation semiconductors, networking kits, telecommunications equipment and much more. The VIP makes it easy to carry on verification and designing tasks for those developers who are into the development of OVM-based test benches via automated metric-driven approach. The integrated compliance management system (CMS) reduces the complexity involved in the compliance verification.
Dave Tokic, director of product marketing, Cadence says, “The need for metric-driven highly automated OVM VIP is clearly growing, and Cadence is investing significantly to satisfy this demand and deliver VIP to the early protocol adopters at the earliest possible time. Verification teams benefit from the depth of Cadence’s VIP portfolio for verifying compliance to leading-edge protocols. We are confident that our new products for SuperSpeed USB and PCI Express 3.0 will go a long way in providing these engineers with the productivity, predictability and quality they are seeking.”
