The New and Talented Addonics NAS Adapter
By Dean • Dec 16th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory NewsAddonics Technologies, the leading manufacturer of external and mobile storage products, has recently launched its new Network Attached Storage (NAS) adapter. This product is meant to offer an affordable and convenient way for adding USB storage devices onto a local area network.
Once the attached devices are on the network they can be shared by any network user in NAS. The new solution also allows users to create their own customised NAS appliance that has unlimited expansion and supports RAID configurations via drive enclosures, port multipliers and IO converters of the same company. It functions in much the same way as the Newlink NAS BitTorrent USB adapter, although it allows for many more hard drives. If the new Addonics NAS adapter is used with the Addonics storage towers or racks, users can have terabytes of additional storage space for any LAN and that too will be configured for the RAID. The NAS adapter is compatible with SMB (Server Message Block) and the open source Samba network protocols. As a result, users can access the shared data among Windows, Mac OS X, and various Linux distributions.
The adapter features a USB 2.0/1.1 connection and a fast Ethernet 10/100Mbps interface. The remote users can have the FTP access using this adapter. Up to eight remote users can establish a FTP session simultaneously via Internet.
