Dell steps up to the plate once again with a brand new invention that is sure to satisfy more than a few hungry tech geeks. The new Dell Inspiron Duo, soon to be released, combines all advantages of a netbook computer with the luxury of a tablet very similar to the Apple iPad. The Inspiron Duo caters perfectly for entertainment as well as work purposes. Apple may have to step up their game once the Inspiron is released as it’s sure to be a winner.

Features

The Dell Inspiron is set to be released sometime early next year. It has a 10-inch screen and neatly folds closed to fit into your bag. Barely the size of a C-format book, this little gizmo is something a little different. The Inspiron offers all the benefits of a tablet computer like the iPad, and the Inspiron is a great little machine for watching movies, playing games, listening to music and is also perfectly optimized for surfing the web.

Issues

The main discrepancy that many people had with the Apple iPad and other tablets was that they don’t offer a suitable keyboard platform. Touchscreen keyboards can work for simple tasks but tend to be more of a hindrance when handling larger documents. The Inspiron changes all that by being able to convert from a netbook to a touch screen tablet with ease.

The answers

It opens up pretty much like an ordinary netbook from where working while you’re mobile becomes a cinch with the classic QWERTY keyboard. When you want to browse the web or just sit back and enjoy some entertainment, you can flip the screen around and use the Inspiron like a tablet. This is a simple, yet fantastic innovation, making mobile computing a whole lot friendlier.

The Dell Inspiron will contain an Intel dual-core Atom N550 processor which is really powerful for a little device like this. It will also run Windows 7 Home Premium. It is still being debated whether this will perform better than other Android tablets soon to be released, but by the sounds of it, Dell is pretty confident the Inpspiron Duo is going to be the forerunner in this division.

Dell laptops

Dell laptops follow the same design motif that Dell’s desktop line does by splitting the laptops into specific lines. The primary laptops found within Dell laptops include the Dell Inspiron, the Dell Studio series, with the beefy Dell XPS laptops being the most powerful of the bunch.

The Inspiron line

Within the Inspiron line, the mid-level Dell Inspiron N5010 has long been a top seller for the computer manufacturer and with good reason. At under £600 it’s priced below its inspired performance, sporting an Intel Core i5 430M configuration, clocking at 2.26GHz and 4GB RAM out of the gate.

The Studio Line

The Dell Studio line has long been considered superior in both build and capabilities when compared to the Dell Inspiron line, but recent additions in both categories have blurred the lines a little. The fairly expensive but very capable Dell Studio 1558 is a must have if price isn’t a factor, sporting a 15.6-inch display, an Intel Core i7 processor clocking in at 1,600GHz. If price is a factor, however, scaling back to the ever popular (but dated) Dell Studio 15 series is a viable option.

Dell XPS Line

Dell doesn’t have too many variations of its XPS lineup unlike it does for the two ranges above. As such the company has historically able to focus all its resources into marketing one or two very powerful notebooks within this product category. Within the UK the quite uninspiring Dell Studio XPS 16 is the current beefy laptop the US manufacturer is punting. Almost as if Dell isn’t paying much attention to this notebook series in the UK, the recently updated laptop sports an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor running at 2.2GHz with a paltry 2GB ram at a bloated £699. Steer clear. Unless you plan on going all the way up to the Intel Core i7-820QM configuration which, honestly, is priced too steeply, too.

Ubiquity equals accountability

The advantage products from companies like Dell offer is the vast support behind the sales. With a large network, you know that if you have any problems with your laptop, you can have it very quickly ironed out. Assuming that there is sufficient reason coupled with your liking Dell’s general aesthetics, you won’t go wrong with these laptops.

Dell targets cloud service industry

Dell, the world’s second biggest computer manufacturer, has indicated it intends on making a big push in the cloud service for enterprises business.

Enterprise server and data businesses

This push come off the back of acquiring service-focused Perot Systems, and the service is set to launch with data centre hardware being deployed at Dell data centers, and the software to manage them being made available to the enterprises who sign up.

The target enterprises are medium to big, said Dell at a San Francisco press conference, scaling up to 5,000 employees.

The point, said Dell, citing an insurance company as an example, is that data requirements are not static and enterprises need solutions that are easily adaptable. It would cost these enterprises much more money if they had to make physical adjustments in their own data centers, as opposed to siphoning the service off to an independent company. This way, explained Dell, they would mitigate costs for their clients.

Hedging bets

As Dell makes its push into the cloud service industry, putting it in direct competition with Salesforce and Oracle, the company is facing increasing pressure in its key business – computer manufacturing. A recent iSuppli report indicate Dell, who were the number one computer manufacturer in the world until 2004, may fall even further down to third, with Acer displacing them. Acer has seen strong sales, especially in the netbook and notebook segments, whereas Dell’s Inspiron and XPS line had particularly soft sales during the recession.

It will be interesting to see how big cloud service will be for Dell, who have relied on their computing business to put up the bulk of its sales. This move into a new segment follows in the wake of Dell’s swing at the mobile phones market as well as its upcoming tablet device.

A Genuine Free Laptop Deal from Vodafone

By Wilson • Feb 2nd, 2009 • Category: Netbooks

Getting a laptop for free along with a mobile broadband package is the hottest deal nowadays. Many mobile broadband service providers are aggressively hunting for subscriptions by offering a free laptop/notebook to the customers. However it may seem free but the reality is that the companies spread the cost of the laptop and mobile broadband over the years in a way that it costs very less to the customers on a per month basis. But if we sum up the total cost then eventually the customers end up paying even more than they would have paid in lump sum to purchase a laptop. Therefore, the keyword ‘Free’ is not completely genuine.

But now you can actually grab a deal that actually offers a free laptop for the first three months, along with mobile broadband package. Vodafone has recently revised its broadband plans with regards to pricing of its 24 month 1GB and 3GB + laptop contracts. The company is now giving away an attractive Dell Inspiron netbook absolutely free for the first three months. Of course the deal only applies to the less powerful Inspiron Mini 9 and not the Dell Inspiron Mini 12. Nevertheless, you can bag yourself the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook with its 1.6GHz Atom processor and 1GB high speed RAM without paying anything. So the word “Free” is authentic this time, but for the first three months only.

After three months the 1GB package will cost £25 a month and the 3GB package will charge you £30 per month. The company is also offering other plans too but the free Dell Inspiron is available only with these two.
