Verbatim 2-Disk Raid External Hard Drive: The Speedy and Smarter Backup

By Wilson • Mar 9th, 2009 • Category: Uncategorized

Looking for a reliable and speedy external hard drive solution to store Terabytes of data? If yes, then the Verbatim 2-Disk Raid External Hard Drive is a great choice. It’s a smart looking hard drive enclosure offering a gigantic 2TB of external data storage and data backup at blazing speed. The Verbatim hard drive unit actually consists of two 1TB hard disk drives that can be configured in three different ways for ensuring data security and stability.

The first mode is the normal mode in which both the drives function like any other external hard drive. The second mode configures the drives in accordance with RAID 0 standard in which the data is split between the two disks to bolster data read speed. In both the modes you will get full 2TB space to store the data. The last mode adheres to RAID 1 standards and writes the same data on both the disks to ensure duplication of data. This is very helpful because in case any one drive fails then the other one can be used for backup. However, in this mode the actual amount of storage space which you will get is 1TB. There’s a switch at the back of the Verbatim hard drive that can be used to choose the mode you want but once a mode is activated don’t change the switch until you want to reformat and reconfigure both the disks completely.

The Verbatim 2-Disk Raid External Hard Drive can be connected via USB, but if you have an eSATA port on your PC then you are benefited in a better way. The Verbatim 2-Disk RAID 2TB can copy a 1GB folder in 43 seconds via USB and the same amount of data can be copied in just 16 seconds through an eSATA socket.

Western Digital Unveils its Caviar Green Monster: the First 2TB Hard Disk Drive

By Jenny • Feb 12th, 2009 • Category: Uncategorized

Computing enthusiasts always crave for performance, reliability and storage capacity. In the past recent years our appetite for digital media storage has increased to a great level. Even the 500GB hard disk drive seems to be insufficient to store all the photos, videos, games, movies and other applications these days. So the companies started to launch large capacity hard drives. At first Hitachi released its 1TB HDD. Then came the Seagate with its 1.5TB HDD and now the Western Digital is claiming the capacity crown with its new Caviar Green 2TB HDD.

The Caviar Green is not only the first hard disk to reach the 2TB milestone but it is also a part of the Western Digital’s GreenPower family. It ensures energy efficient operations and low noise emissions. The Caviar Green is the third generation Green hard drive. However, the technology that this drive uses is the same as the technology used in the first two generations Green hard disk drives. The Western Digital Caviar Green features the IntelliSeek just-in-time drive head delivery that substantially reduces the seek power consumption, noise levels and vibrations. The company has also incorporated the NoTouch ramp load technology that removes the head off the hard disk when it’s not in use. The Western Digital Caviar Green SATA II 2TB is the quietest drive offering such a big storage capacity. Of course, we can be sure it won’t take long before either Seagate or another competitor over this model with a 2.5 TB HDD.
