Fujitsu has Decided Not to Make HDD Read/Write Heads Anymore

By Dean • Jan 30th, 2009 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

Fujitsu, the company known for its world class computing products and related accessories has recently decided to leave all the operations related to the manufacturing of hard disk drive read/write heads. The decision comes in the midst of the company’s restructing plans and Q3 loss. Read/Write heads are the heart of a hard disk drive that are used to read/write data to and from the magnetic platters.

The company will simply end the production of read/write heads this year in the end of March. Right now around 360 employees are working in the hard disk read/write head manufacturing factory located in Nagano, Japan. The company has decided to reallocate all of them in other operations. It’s obvious that the company must have decided to make this move keeping in mind some positive implications and long term benefits but it will also make the Fujitsu to bear one time facilities related loss of ¥5 billion, i.e. US$56 million. Fujitsu is completely reviewing its hard disk business and has been seen in talks with Western Digital and Toshiba. Toshiba intends to buy this business from Fujitsu and is pretty sure about this but nothing has been finalised yet. Owners of existing Fujitsu hard drives, like the Fujitsu MHZ2320BH, shouldn’t worry too much, as the company will likely continue to service its warranties on the hard drives. Meanwhile, the existing Fujitsu’s facility will continue to make circuit boards only.

By Jenny • Dec 19th, 2008 • Category: Uncategorized

LifeBook U820 is a convertible notebook, which hosts a wide array of exciting features. It is capable of handling resource hungry tasks with aplomb. Despite its cost, the Fujitsu Lifebook’s compact size, especially for a tablet PC, in addition to remarkable features, more than justifies its expense.

As far as the size and form factor are concerned, the LifeBook U820 stands between a smartphone and a netbook. When closed, it is small enough to fit into a coat pocket, which can definitely not be said for most tablet PCs, like the Toshiba Portege M700, for example. Coming to the hardware specification, it equips a 5.6” WXGA screen that has an amazing resolution of 1280×800 pixels with passive touch screen capability. An Intel Atom Processor Z530 is installed at its core, which gives the device superior processing powers. There is 1 GB of DDR2 @ 533 MHz on-board memory located in the computer. For data storage, one 120 GB Toshiba HDD is installed that runs @ 4200 rpm. Apart from these, the LifeBook U820 also features a built-in GPS receiver and integrated Garmin Mobile PC. It fully complies with the 802.11a/b/g/draft-n specifications and includes an integrated Bluetooth mode for wireless communication.

One major advantage of having LifeBook U280 is that it’s very easy to use. The keyboard is ergonomically designed. However to maintain the ultra-portable form factor the keyboard keys are kept small. So if you are used to typing on large keyboards then it may take some time to get used to this one, but overall the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 is one of the best performer’s in its class.

A Feast and great Bargain for UK Lifebook Users

By Wilson • Nov 27th, 2008 • Category: Laptops

For the first time Fujitsu Siemens has come up with a unique and exciting offer for its UK customers. The company is offering a chance to get a free Lifebook upgrade every three years. If UK consumers buy a brand new Lifebook between now and April 2009, then they will surely get a replacement Lifebook every three years for life. This is an unprecedented promotional campaign by the company and has been named Lifebook 4 Life.

Apart from the above mentioned scheme there is another offer for UK PC enthusiasts called the Esprimo Promise. According to this scheme the users of the Esprimo range of laptops will benefit by extending the standard warranty period of their machines. If the Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook laptop breaks within three years of purchase then Fujitsu Siemens will replace it with the new one and will also refund the purchase price.

These two offers are amazingly good and will attract a large number of notebook users. However, to receive the advantages of these two schemes the consumers must fulfill some conditions. First, these schemes are for UK consumers only and the buyers must register their laptops within 21 days of purchase. Second, both the offers are valid till 21 April 2009 only and the customers opting for the Lifebook 4 Life offer have to upgrade the standard warranty of their Lifebook by paying an additional amount of £40. After this if the customer returns the Lifebook in proper working condition after three years he will get a new one from the company.
