Toshiba has long been at the forefront of 3D technology, vowing to aggressively pursue glasses-free 3D TV while it continues to improve on its offering. Sticking to the three-dimensional theme, the company has also unveiled a beastly Toshiba 3D gaming laptop at CES 2011, called the Toshiba Qosmio X500.
What’s in the box
Gaming laptops always have impressive specs, but Toshiba’s 3D gaming laptop takes this further. The Toshiba Qosmio X500 gaming laptop features the fresh off the factory floor Intel Core i7 second generation – what is now generally known as the Intel Sandy Bridge chipset. As if that’s not bleeding edge of technology enough for you, it also ships with Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity and USB 3.0.
3D the major draw
However, if CES 2011 is any indication, the company hopes that the main selling point of the Toshiba Qosmio X500 is its built-in 3D support. When accompanied with the ubiquitous Nvidia 3D Vision technology, you get to game – and watch films – in stereoscopic 3D.
In addition to being able to experience the 3D directly on the Toshiba gaming laptop, the company has allowed for transmittal of the three-dimensional image over HDMI onto your 3D TV, so you can see the effect there. In many ways, this works much like how a 3D Blu-ray player or a 3D console like the PS3 works, so the tech is not brand new, strictly speaking, but it is a very nice inclusion, nevertheless.
CES 2011 continues
If you’re having trouble keeping up with the countless announcements coming out of CES 2011, you’re not alone. For a tech lover, this is like a child being locked in a candy store – lost in the euphoria of lots of sweet stuff, you’ll inevitably consume too much and get ill. But what fun is thinking away the hangover before it’s given a chance to actually set in?
