HP Refused to Launch Linux Based Netbooks in UK

By James • Feb 9th, 2009 • Category: Lead Story, Netbooks

Surprisingly, the world’s leading maker of top notch computers and portable computing devices, Hewlett Packard or HP has recently refused to launch its new Linux based netbooks in the UK. The technology experts were expecting this release for a long time but this sudden twist has left them in a confused state. According to the company, users will only be able to buy the designer edition of the HP mini 1000 laptop that uses the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. Besides this they can go for the HP Compaq Mini 700 running on Windows XP and for the HP mini 2140 that runs on Windows XP and Vista.

The only left out Linux based HP laptop in UK is the old HP mini 2133 that will hardly attract any consumers, as the market is loaded with much better Intel Atom powered laptops. Most of the technology experts are not able to figure out the reason behind this announcement. According to them netbooks are some of the hottest gadgets these days because they offer the latest computing technologies in a compact case and are highly affordable. Linux based netbooks, like the Acer Aspire One A150L, are even more affordable because Linux is open source; as compared to Microsoft’s heavily priced licensed operating systems.

However HP says that the Windows based system better address the market and consumer needs but the technology experts argue that in UK the biggest selling netbook is the Acer Aspire One that runs on Linux OS.
