Bell Micro Enhances Mobile Computing Security Services with the BackStopp instant Destroyer

By Dean • Feb 13th, 2009 • Category: Mobile Computer News

Bell Micro’s security division has partnered with the company Virtuity to support the sales of the BackStopp mobile computing software and services. The agreement signed between these two is exclusively for the UK.

According to Bell Micro this partnership will make the company to serve better to their customers. It will be able to deliver higher level security to prevent data theft on mobile computing devices. Now, if a BackStopp protected device is reported stolen or lost by its users the Virtuity will immediately locate the device and then delete all the ‘at risk’ data within 180 seconds. This will prevent the intruder from accessing the sensitive data on the stolen mobile device and is more dramatic than most security software like the ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm Internet Security software, for instance. After the mobile security protocols get activated, the BackStopp will generate a detailed report of the data accessed (if any). It will also confirm the Virtuity hosting centre about data deletion. If the stolen mobile device features an integrated web cam then the application will also photograph the malicious user.

Steve Browell, General Manager, Security Division at Bell Micro said, “If the national press taught us just one thing last year, it would be the importance of securing data on the move. Protecting data and bringing in encryption for data at rest and in transit, whether on PDA or especially on laptops is a driving need in modern business.”

Batelco Unveils its New Mobile USB Modem

By Jenny • Nov 12th, 2008 • Category: USB

Mobile USB modems are becoming the hot shots these days. Many computing enthusiasts are demanding great devices in small size, especially when it comes to mobile computing and broadband access. Responding to such demands, Batelco has unveiled its new mobile USB modem called the O-net Mobile Broadband that not only features very small form factor but also offers awesome functionality.

According to the company the O-net is the smallest, slimmest and the lightest mobile USB modem in the market. Unlike the Netgear WG 111 GR USB modem, which only offers WiFi, the O-net offers the fastest and best HSDPA services available. In certain hot spots the O-net broadband can support data speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps. It’s easy to use and set up. Users just have to plug it in the USB port to experience the Internet faster than ever before.

Ahmed Al Janahi, Batelco media and government relations general manager said, “The new O-net device enables customers to browse the Internet, send and receive SMS, chat using existing instant messaging service and access business applications, all from the convenience of a laptop or PC, anywhere and anytime. Large volumes of data such as large e-mail attachments can now be downloaded faster than ever before. Additionally, the device also uses an external memory slot that can be used as flash so users can store up to 8GB of documents which is a fantastic added convenience. The external memory cards are available separately.”

Gaming Laptops from MSI: Heavy Duty GX630 and GT735

By Wilson • Oct 23rd, 2008 • Category: Laptops

Being different from the crowd is a daring act, but it is often the base for some really great ideas. MSI’s new decision to launch two gaming laptops, in an era when most producers are struggling to outshine the netbook, is definitely an innovative step.

The GX360 and the GT735 are the two machines made by MSI that feature an AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual Core Mobile Processor. The models differ in terms of their LCD screen dimensions. The GT735 has a 17 inch wide screen, whereas the GX360 features a smaller, 15.4 inch display.

Other variations are also clearly marked: the GX630 offers 4GB of RAM, dual speakers and a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics. Obviously this high-end graphics card is the most impressive feature that distinguishes this model from its predecessor, the MSI Megabook GX600-084.  On the other hand, the GT735 has 4 speakers along with a HD audio woofer and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3850. However, the 4 GB of memory and 320 GB of SATA HDD are common in both machines. Moreover, the two machines also share some other characteristics in common, including a card reader, USB ports, a Wi Fi and Bluetooth.

As such, a consumer is presented with an amazing choice, whereby he can buy a notebook that can better entertain his requirements. The best part of launching two different models simultaneously is the option of comparing their performance. The GT735 costs $1,049.99 (around £650) and the GX360 is available for $1,249.99 (around £770), which is not a huge difference. So the consumers are likely to judge the gaming notebooks by the appeal and not the price difference as it is too petty to influence an opinion.
