A Genuine Free Laptop Deal from Vodafone

By Wilson • Feb 2nd, 2009 • Category: Netbooks

Getting a laptop for free along with a mobile broadband package is the hottest deal nowadays. Many mobile broadband service providers are aggressively hunting for subscriptions by offering a free laptop/notebook to the customers. However it may seem free but the reality is that the companies spread the cost of the laptop and mobile broadband over the years in a way that it costs very less to the customers on a per month basis. But if we sum up the total cost then eventually the customers end up paying even more than they would have paid in lump sum to purchase a laptop. Therefore, the keyword ‘Free’ is not completely genuine.

But now you can actually grab a deal that actually offers a free laptop for the first three months, along with mobile broadband package. Vodafone has recently revised its broadband plans with regards to pricing of its 24 month 1GB and 3GB + laptop contracts. The company is now giving away an attractive Dell Inspiron netbook absolutely free for the first three months. Of course the deal only applies to the less powerful Inspiron Mini 9 and not the Dell Inspiron Mini 12. Nevertheless, you can bag yourself the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook with its 1.6GHz Atom processor and 1GB high speed RAM without paying anything. So the word “Free” is authentic this time, but for the first three months only.

After three months the 1GB package will cost £25 a month and the 3GB package will charge you £30 per month. The company is also offering other plans too but the free Dell Inspiron is available only with these two.

Fujitsu LifeBook U820: Extra Compact Mini Tablet PC

By Jenny • Dec 19th, 2008 • Category: Uncategorized

LifeBook U820 is a convertible notebook, which hosts a wide array of exciting features. It is capable of handling resource hungry tasks with aplomb. Despite its cost, the Fujitsu Lifebook’s compact size, especially for a tablet PC, in addition to remarkable features, more than justifies its expense.

As far as the size and form factor are concerned, the LifeBook U820 stands between a smartphone and a netbook. When closed, it is small enough to fit into a coat pocket, which can definitely not be said for most tablet PCs, like the Toshiba Portege M700, for example. Coming to the hardware specification, it equips a 5.6” WXGA screen that has an amazing resolution of 1280×800 pixels with passive touch screen capability. An Intel Atom Processor Z530 is installed at its core, which gives the device superior processing powers. There is 1 GB of DDR2 @ 533 MHz on-board memory located in the computer. For data storage, one 120 GB Toshiba HDD is installed that runs @ 4200 rpm. Apart from these, the LifeBook U820 also features a built-in GPS receiver and integrated Garmin Mobile PC. It fully complies with the 802.11a/b/g/draft-n specifications and includes an integrated Bluetooth mode for wireless communication.

One major advantage of having LifeBook U280 is that it’s very easy to use. The keyboard is ergonomically designed. However to maintain the ultra-portable form factor the keyboard keys are kept small. So if you are used to typing on large keyboards then it may take some time to get used to this one, but overall the Fujitsu LifeBook U820 is one of the best performer’s in its class.

Nanovision MIMO: The 7 inch USB LCD Mini Monitor

By Dean • Nov 11th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

If all other gadgets are shrinking day by day, then why not monitors too? Today everything is going mobile and every gadget is getting power from USB. In order to add to the productivity of notebooks and other PCs, Nanovision has released the innovative and unique 7 inch DisplayLink monitor. It is not only portable, but also includes a USB port through which it can be charged.

It’s an effective and affordable way to increase the functionality of notebooks and PCs. The Nanovision MIMO is ideal for freeing up the main visual space for more important applications by displaying the other content on its own display. It’s also perfect for applications like news and weather monitoring and multimedia playback such as digital TV, video conferencing, MP3s, photos and much more. Basically, MIMO is designed to display all the secondary applications that are used at a glance. For instance, Instant Messaging (IM), reminders, calendars etc. One of the best things about the MIMO is that it uses the USB port for its connection and power. Monitors, like the LG M2294D, include HDMI, DVI, VGA and scart ports among others, but rarely a USB port. The Nanovision MIMO also renders high quality images and supports a resolution of 800×480 pixels, both in landscape as well as portrait orientation.

Hamid Farzaneh, president and CEO of DisplayLink said, “Nanovision gives you what you want, when you want it. Fun applications are always within view, while reserving your main screens to the productivity task at hand. By exclusively becoming a USB device, the monitor has been transformed from a PC component to a consumer electronics gadget and by integrating multi-function features like VoIP, DTV and Touch Panels, the interesting uses for this technology have yet to be fully realized.”

Dell’s Mini-Laptop is coming this Summer

By Alexis • Jun 6th, 2008 • Category: Laptops, Mobile Computer News

Dell has confirmed in front of US journalists that the “Inspiron Mini”, an affordable laptop along the same lines as the Eee PC, will hit markets in the summer of 2008. But Dell is still keeping the laptop’s exact specifications secret.

“We’re starting this summer”, Dell’s president of the consumer department told APC magazine. While Dell has already referred to the device on their website as the “Inspiron Mini”, the company does not want to reveal any information regarding its specifications. However, insider circles have discovered that the computer will be imbued with Intel’s Atom processor. Whether they will use a trimmed down version of Windows XP for cheap computers or Ubuntu Linux, has yet to be decided according to APC.

The journalists have discovered that Dell is working foremost on the computer’s keyboard. Some of the standard function keys are missing, but the rest of the computer’s operating keys should be larger as a result. According to APC, the current device even differs slightly from the version that Michael Dell introduced at the “All Things Digital” conference at the end of May.

The rest of configuration appears, based on the information gathered so far and pictures released by Dell, to correspond to the general standards of mini-laptops today: 8.9 inch display, three USB ports, and a VGA output are most likely certain to be included. It’s still unclear whether Dell will include the smaller SSD or instead opt for the larger, but more expensive, 1.8 inch hard drive. In the booming market of inexpensive PCs, Dell is definitely going to face some competition with an August 2008 release: Acer, Asus, Gigabyte, HP, MSI and VIA have all already announced similar devices, which should appear even before the Inspiron Mini. All of these mini computers should cost around 300 US dollars (£150). Dell has yet to reveal whether the Inspiron Mini will fall in the same price range.
