HP Pavilion dv5z: Small, Solid and Stellar 15 inch Laptop

By Wilson • Jan 13th, 2009 • Category: Laptops

Small notebooks are the latest trend now, and HP isn’t being left out of that race. The HP Pavilion dv5z is the latest addition to its line of 15” notebooks, and the company was just in time to catch the back-to-school shopping spree in 2008. The HP Pavilion dv5z is equipped with a 2.1 GHz dual- core AMD Turion X2 processor, and an ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics card to deliver a stunning graphical experience to match its performance. The only thing that feels out of place is the price.

The Pavilion dv5z comes factory equipped with a 15.4” Widescreen HD WSXGA+ display running at 1680×1050, which enhances the power of the Radeon to give you one of the best onboard graphics ever on a laptop. You get 2 GB ram, but can opt for up to 4 GB, like with the Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion DV5 model. It’s equipped with a 160 GB SATA hard disk running at 5400 rpm, and a dual layered DVD writer. It is Wi- Fi capable with 802.11 b/n networks.

The dv5z features HP’s new “Mesh” imprint finish, and the notebook is smooth around the edges, making it much easier and more comfortable to carry around. The touchpad is quite stylish with its reflective surface, which can catch fingerprints at times, but that’s acceptable.

With the notebook being this intensive in terms of graphics and performance, one can’t expect much with the battery life. The HP dv5z gives an average battery life at full charge of about 2 and half hours. This isn’t much and HP could have done better, but performance and visuals make up for that loss. Overall the HP Pavilion dv5z is a great notebook for shoppers.
