The DELL Axim X5 Pocket PC

By Alexis • Jul 29th, 2008 • Category: PDA News

Dell has launched the Axim X5 Pocket PC in two versions: The entry level one and the advanced one. They might seem to be a bit identical, but there is a huge difference in their configurations. While Dell is known for their laptops, like the popular Dell Inspiron 1525, the company has relatively little experience in the pocket PC market, or developing computers with ultra compact dimensions. Nonetheless, it would seem as though the company’s computing experience has helped them for the better in developing the Axim. The CPU of the former has a processing speed of 300MHz, while that of the latter is 400MHz. Similarly, there is a difference in the size of their respective RAMs, where one has 32 MB and the other has twice as much RAM.

The advanced model includes a lot of attractive features like a stylus, an optional interface cradle, a highly developed protective case, a user manual and finally a CD with activesync (version 3.5). The weight of the palmtop is a meager 196 grams, and it definitely looks far heavier than it really is.

The display has been given a stylish look and has 4 functional keys, a power key and a navigation button. The left panel of the PC has more variety in controls as it contains a reset key, a digital record key and a joystick, which can be scrolled so that all the operations can be performed with one hand. The device uses a lithium ion battery with a running capacity of up to 25 hours, which is very impressive.

There is nothing much to criticize about the PC and it looks to be pretty competitive. For more details, log on to the official website of DELL and check out the device for yourself.
