Samsung N110: Beautifully Compact Netbook with an Incredible Battery Life

By Alexis • Jun 30th, 2009 • Category: Netbooks

The Samsung NC10 was at the top most favourite-Netbook chart after its release to the market in October 2008 and despite severe competition in the market, Korean manufacturer Samsung continues to remain at the top with the N110 Netbook. The Samsung N110 Netbook is a brand new updated version of the NC10 Netbook. This upgraded Netbook is anonymous-looking, with matte black interior accented by a very subtle maroon stripe around the outer edge along with a glossy black lid. This makes the N110 classier than the NC10 Netbook.

The new Samsung N110 Netbook measures 10.3 x 7.3 x 1.2 inches, weighing 2.8 pounds and has almost the same specifications as its predecessor, which includes a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB of RAM, Windows XP Home, and a 160 GB Hard Drive. Samsung has updated the N110 by extending the touchpad and increasing the six-cell battery capacity to provide a lengthy 7 hours of runtime. The Samsung N110 Netbook also includes a VGA connector, 3 USB 2.0, SD card reader, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11 b/g Wireless-G Wi-Fi, Bluetooth along with the Intel 945GSE chipset. The 10.1-inch LCD offers a 1,024×600-pixel resolution, uses LED technology which means that the screen is thinner, up to 33% brighter, and uses much less power than traditional LCD screen and also comprises of a built-in 1.3 mega pixel Web cam.

Taking a closer view of the Sansung N110 Netbook, the left side of the chassis includes the Power Adapter Port, Ethernet Port, and 2 USB Ports. The front edge of the Samsung N110 is occupied by a 3 Format Flash-Card Reader and on the right side of the chassis are the Audio in-and-out Ports, a third USB Port, a VGA Connector and a Blue illuminated power button.

The new Samsung N110 also incorporates an anti-bacterial, normal size, notebook PC style keyboard for easy typing. The keyboard also uses Silver Nano Technology which coats the keyboard with small, nano-sized silver ion-powder for a bacteria-free and more hygienic computing environment. The ergonomic design and optimised key spacing of the Samsung N110 Netbook makes working a pleasure and productive experience with fewer errors and faster typing speed.

Ultimately, the differences between the two Samsung Netbooks wedge down to design versus battery life. Samsung includes an industry-standard one-year parts-and-labor warranty with the N110 system. Support is accessible through a 24-7 toll-free phone line, and the Samsung Web site offers an online knowledge base, driver downloads, troubleshooting, and live chat with a support representative.

AMD to Produce Conesus Netbook Processors

By Jenny • Nov 17th, 2008 • Category: Laptops

Advanced Micro Devices or AMD, one of the burgeoning companies manufacturing high-end processors and other peripherals, has announced that it’s going to dip its toe into the netbook market. In order to break Intel’s dominance, AMD is going to launch processors from next year onwards for small laptops that run basic applications and have displays of 10 inches or less.

The processors will basically be for those who want a secondary laptop. The company will make its debut by launching Conesus, which is a mini-notebook processor with a cache of 1MB. Geneva will follow this model and will offer a cache of 2 MB in 2010. The company has unveiled that its future models for netbooks will be based on a dual core design and will also support DDR3 memory. That means AMD is initially entering the netbook market with entry level processors but gradually planning on introducing more powerful units.

According to the company’s officials, the netbook processors will be available in different models having varying cache size. Apart from this, down the line the company will also optimize those processors for lower power consumption. Currently nearly every netbook on the market, like the Samsung NC10 for example, makes use of the Intel Atom processor, or some other Intel model. So if you are planning to buy a netbook or mini-notebook next year, then maybe give AMD a try instead of the ubiquitous Intel; you may get a better deal without spending too much.
