Introducing the Gigantic 64GB Pen Drive from Patriot Memory

By Jenny • Dec 17th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

Patriot Memory has pushed the boundaries of portable storage by launching its new Xporter Magnum USB pen drive under its Extreme Performance Line which offers 64 GB of storage space. This pen drive is sufficient for carrying a tremendous amount of data in your pocket. It can hold around 13,000 soundtracks or you can carry fifteen 720p HD movies along with you without any hassles. No other flash drive on the market offers such a huge amount of storage as of now.

Performance wise, the Xporter Magnum USB pen drive is not disappointing. It is configured as a dual channel drive which uses Multi Level Cell (MLC) flash memory. The storage capacity of the pen drive is definitely its highlight, as it is over twice as large as even the company’s other huge USB stick, the Patriot Xporter XT Boost 32GB. Although the Multi Level Cell flash is slower than the Single Level Cell (SLC) flash memory (especially during writing the data), the Xporter Magnum USB pen drive guarantees a read speed of up to 210x, i.e. around 31MB/s. Such a read speed is excellent when it is offered by a 64 GB of flash drive. After all, what’s the use of a pen drive that offers faster read speeds but can accommodate only 4, 8, 12 or 32 GB of data.

Coming to the design, the Xporter Magnum USB pen drive features a compact form factor and can be easily carried along by the user.

BitArmor DataContol: Great New Data Security Solution

By Alexis • Dec 15th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

BitArmor, the leading provider of data control software used to secure corporate data, has rolled out its new version of BitArmor DataControl. This piece of software offers an unprecedented way to protect data by focusing on the data itself and not on the devices which contain it. The new version supports safe file collaboration and secured transfer of files and data access on USB drives. This makes it feasible to transfer and access data to the unprotected systems that do not have the DataControl agent installed on them.

DataControl’s new version is the most convenient and effective data security solution that is available in the market right now. All you have to do is simply drag n’ drop your files on to the regular USB drive, like the Trekstor USB-Stick CO 4GB, and its all under control. For added security users can also use the BitArmor Control Sentry which allows the users to supply the right password to access the protected document.

According to John Oltsik, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group, “BitArmor approaches the data protection problem in a unique way, i.e. by embedding protection policies with the data itself, and not by protecting just the devices where data resides. I strongly believe this information-centric approach is the future of data protection.”

BT E170 Mobile Broadband makes Internet Access Extra Easy

By Dean • Nov 11th, 2008 • Category: USB

Today internet is a necessary part of our life. It’s hard to imagine work, entertainment, multimedia and other facilities without the Internet. But one thing which bothers most of net surfers is the overpriced Internet service offered by the top ISPs (Internet Service Providers).

In order to solve this issue the telecom giant, British Telecommunications, popularly known as BT has launched a new service. The company has launched a new mobile broadbank USB stick which will make the mobile Internet an affordable service. The E170 mobile broadband USB stick will allow users to connect to the Internet on the move either via a Wi-Fi hotspot in a BT Openzone or through the mobile phone network. While some WiFi sticks like the Netgear WG 111 GR USB only connect to the internet via a wireless connection, the BT E170 makes use of mobile broadband as well. Under this service up to 1 GB of data transfer is offered per month. In case you are in the BT Openzone wireless hotspot you get an additional 2,000 BT Openzone minutes each month. This is good because the free Wi-Fi hotspots won’t eat up your minutes. The BT E170 datastick is very easy to use. It has a built in installation software and is recognised by any computer instantly. The network coverage is good as well and the data transfer rates are amazing. If you are in the high speed network area, then this USB stick can offer you data transfer rates up to 7.2Mbps which is more than enough to download gigabytes of data in no time.

Kingston DataTraveler 150 USB Stick: An absolutely Massive Storage Device

By Jenny • Nov 6th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

Up until now you must have seen and tried lots of USB sticks for storing your data, but did any of them offer sufficient space to carry your entire DVD, audio, photo and media collection? I’m guessing no. But now it’s possible to accomplish this as Kingston, the world leader in USB drive technology, has launched its new USB 150 DataTraveler drive.

These new drives have an incredible storage capacity of 32GB. The drive is durable, light weight and carries a trendy sports look. It is made from hard plastic and available in an Orange colour with small white spots on it. At one end there is a protective cap for protecting the main USB interface from damage, dust and water, while back end has an eyelet that can be used to attach the supplied thread loop and connect it further to your key chain.

Despite being a somewhat large USB stick with measurements of 77.9mm x 22mm x 12.05mm, it is still a very attractive portable gadget with its large disk space. The Kingston DT150/32GB DataTraveler DataTraveler 150 32GB is a frontrunner performance wise too. The data transfer rate is quite good and satisfactory, while the small blue coloured LED adds to its style.

IBM USB Stick: Ensuring Secure Online Banking

By James • Nov 3rd, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

IBM, a world leader in computing products, has launched a new device called the ZTIC, which is designed to offer security against serious hacks during online banking. Hacking an online banking transaction is a very common offence. This attack is so dangerous that it drains out the account money in a fraction of seconds. During such attacks, the hacker makes use of some malware which sits between the bank server and the end user PC. He takes control of all the transactions and is responsible for the increased debits in the user’s account.

The ZTIC, short for Zone Trusted Information Channel, is the perfect solution to stop such attacks. It’s basically a USB stick that you attach to the PC before completing online banking transactions. This USB stick links directly to the bank server, thereby bypassing your PC and creating a safe zone. As a result no hacker can infiltrate the session and all transactions are secured. It is much more advanced than the standard security options offered by, say, the Lenovo Security Memory Key 1 GB USB stick. An LCD display on the ZTIC also lets you read all the messages regarding the transactions. Whenever a transaction has to be take place, the USB stick asks for the confirmation. You can either accept or reject the transaction by pressing accept or reject button on the ZTIC. You can also match the details of the transaction that are being displayed on the web browser with those on the ZTIC LCD. Any transaction will not take place unless the user accepts it via ZTIC USB stick.
