Toshiba might be a late arrival into the world of PDAs, but its first foray into the industry with the e570, is sure to create giant ripples in the market. This small and lightweight PDA comes with dual on-board expansion ports, in addition to a host of features and options.

The PDA is a mere 12.4 cm long with a thickness of 1.8 cm, giving it very compact, favourable, and portable measurements. It also weighs just 180 grams including the battery. The presence of a 32MB flash ROM, the latest 206MHz StrongARM powerhouse processor and a reflective LCD screen with a resolution of 240X320 pixels showcase its aura. All these components are packaged into a sleek case made of hard plastic.

There are two slots in the phone, one is a CompactFlash Type II slot and the other one is an SD card slot. If one uses an oversized CompactFlash card, such as the 802.11b, it might cause an unnerving situation as the cover starts flopping around the back of the PC.

The e570’s features measure to up to practically all contemporary competitors. Moreover the PDA also possesses a 3.5mm headphone socket on its top of the device and is compatible with Windows Media Player 8. There is no provision for a jog wheel but one can still take notes easily, courtesy of the hardware button which is situated just on top of the microphone.

Toshiba allots some additional software onto the device, in addition to the operating system. Toshiba’s extensive experience in manufacturing laptops, especially subnotebooks like the Toshiba Portégé R500-124, is clearly evident in the e570’s high quality. The e570 comes across as one of the sleekest pocket PCs available in the market and its bargain price really makes it worth checking out.
