Brands that make 17-inch laptops

The old saying goes ‘In Texas, we like everything big!’ I suppose puny 15-inch laptops won’t fit that billing. No worries, J.R., we look at a 17-inch laptop or two that’d be Texas-worthy.
17-inch MacBook Pro
My first contact with a 17-inch laptop was when I first saw a 17-inch PowerBook back in 2004. It was wondrously colossal to me back then – and its younger brother, the quicker, sleeker, 17-inch MacBook Pro, is still wondrously colossal to me today. Quite possibly the most recognizable 17-inch laptop in the world, Apple has long pitched the 17-inch MacBook Pro as the creative professional’s ideal working machine, and with that much screen real estate, it’s easy to ‘see’ why.
HP range

One would think HP was a Texan company they build so many 17-inch laptops. Well, it’s not Texan – it’s headquartered in Palo Alto, actually – and the company just makes so many laptops, it’s likely the 17-inch giants sneak through the product line cracks every now and then.
We’re quite fond of HP’s Pavillion range of 17-inch laptops, so if you were hoping to be pointed in the right direction, consider yourself pointed.
Acer and Toshiba

The other two companies that have a screen real estate obsessed R&D team are Acer and Toshiba. You can find over 50 different Toshiba Satellite laptop models with at least 17-inch displays as well as over 50 Acer laptops with 17-inch displays. We always thought people meant something else by ‘Big in Japan’, Toshiba, and as for Acer, well, I’m struggling to come up with a size-related metaphor for Taiwan. Sorry.
When 17 isn’t enough
In seriousness, though, 17-inch laptops certainly have their place in one’s computer buying repertoire. They make for great media players, with their generous screen size and often-high resolutions. They’re also fantastic for creatives who do need multiple windows accessible simultaneously. And, of course, for Texans, who like everything big. Don’t tell them they can find 19-inch laptops, too. Those devices are so big it’s actually obscene.
