Wireless Numpad: Brings Increased Functionality to the Laptop

By Alexis • Jan 3rd, 2009 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

A Wireless Numpad is one of the coolest notebook accessories you can have. It is meant for those who don’t have a standard keyboard on their laptop, which is admittedly a lot of us. In order to shrink the size of notebooks, many companies remove the numpad from laptop keyboards. While some people find it cool, others find it annoying, especially when they have to do calculations using the linear number keys.

The numpad is very essential if you want to avoid figure mistakes and calculate with speed. The Wireless Numpad is a great add-on for the notebooks. It adds to the functionality of the notebook and offers the comfort of a full-scale desktop keyboard. The Wireless Numpad has got a 19 key array offering all the numpad functions, plus it also equips 13 hot keys that can be used for triggering various functions such as Mouse Left Key, Mouse Right Key, Num Lock, Window Magnifier, www, Email, Media, Power Point, Word, Excel, Play/Pause, Prev Track, Vol +, Stop, Next Track and Vol – commands. This makes the work much easier. It also lets you control the multimedia on your fingertips. Although it doesn’t offer a calculator like the Trust Wireless Calculator KP-4100p numpad does, the Wireless Numpad does offer two mouse buttons with a high precision 1000 dpi resolution trackball. Some of the numeric keys have dual functionality and the user can access both of them by turning the Num Lock on or off.

The Wireless Numpad works on the 2.4 GHz radio communication and links wirelessly to the notebook. All you need is one free USB port to plug in the wireless USB receiver and 2 AA batteries to power the numpad.

Grab an Eye-Fi Card: Allow Your Images to Upload Automatically

By Jenny • Dec 19th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

Taking photos via digital camera and getting them stored on to a memory card is real fun, but it becomes a headache when you have to transfer them to your PC. Even though it’s not a big deal to plug in a USB cable and transfer the files, but still it’s something that you have to remember and do whenever you get new stuff.

But now the task of data transfer from digital camera to PC can be automated. All you need to do is get an Eye-Fi Wireless SD-card for your camera and configure it to your needs. Once configured and installed in the camera, it will automatically download the photos to your PC or photo site (depending on the configuration). For this you have to connect to a home network or any Wayport hotspot and the Eye-Fi will automatically synchronise the data stored in the camera with the one stored on your computer.

The Eye-Fi offers a storage capacity of 2 GB, which means you can capture thousands of images. The only issue with this card is it that it’s highly priced. It costs around £30 more than a normal card of the same capacity. So if you are a regular traveller and don’t want to keep opening your laptop every now and then to download the images then the Eye-Fi is for you. But if most of the time you love to sit at home then try considering some other normal high capacity card available at an equivalent cost.

Bluetooth 10x: Get Ready for a Faster and Enhanced Bluetooth

By Alexis • Dec 8th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

Lots of buzz has been created about finalising the specifications of SuperSpeed USB or popularly known as USB 3.0 but there is other good news which we must also report on. Apart from the Universal Serial Bus or USB, Bluetooth is also set for an upgrade and a new and advanced version next year. The Bluetooth special Interest Group has announced that the next generation of wireless technology, Bluetooth 2.2 be ready for launch in the middle of 2009.

According to the group, the Wi-Fi technology in question will be designed to work with both WLAN and USB and will be known as Bluetooth 10x and Bluetooth 100x respectively. The new Bluetooth is designed mainly to achieve higher data transfer speeds and reliability. With the current prevalence of wireless communication, fast data transfer has become a necessity rather than an optional service. Bluetooth 10x for WLAN will arrive first as the Wi-Fi modules are more popular in mobile phones these days. It will be 10 times faster than the current Bluetooth found in all Bluetooth devices, like the Hama Bluetooth USB-Adapter, for example. Users will be able to transfer large files at a rate of 30Mb/sec instead of crawling at a speed of 3Mb/sec. The Bluetooth 100x for USB will offer a jaw dropping data transfer rate of 300Mb/sec.

Huawei D100 Wireless Router: Allows for Broadband Sharing

By Wilson • Nov 28th, 2008 • Category: Mobile Computing Accessory News

Wireless dongles are one of the most essential devices nowadays. They allow a user to connect to the Internet via his laptop using a mobile signal. This eliminates the need for searching for an existing Wi-Fi hot spot. Till now, each individual user needed to have a separate wireless dongle to access the Internet but 3 Mobile, the company with the largest 3G coverage of UK networks has invented a solution that allows Internet sharing via such wireless dongles.

The company has launched the Huawei D100 wireless router for this purpose. The user has to plug in the 3 Mobile USB dongle which is also developed by Huawei into the D100 wireless router and immediately up to four people can share the connection for absolutely free. The D100 wireless router works the same as any other router, like the Sweex Wireless Router, and generates a Wi-Fi signal which allows the Wi-Fi enabled laptops to share the connection. This is very handy especially in case you are travelling along with your colleagues and all of them need to access the Internet simultaneously without paying anything extra.

The D100 wireless router has to be powered via a mains charger. As a result the whole setup is not completely wire free but to some extent it’s a meticulous way to share the broadband network.
