The IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Tablet PC
By James • Jul 16th, 2008 • Category: UncategorizedIBM has a history full of contributions to the field of electronics, consumer goods and information technology. But the question everyone seems to ask is when will IBM come out with the first company manufactured tablet PC? Despite the fact that the first tablet PC was introduced over three years ago, IBM has still kept everyone guessing on the answer to this question. So finally, IBM has come out with its first tablet PC, the Thinkpad X41.
The machine delivers the best and comes with a list of high quality features. The tablet looks and functions like a quintessential notebook PC until the screen is rotated and laid flat for use. It is powered by Intel Pentium M Centrino 1500 Processor with 512 MB of RAM. The PC also comes with Bluetooth technology, a biometric fingerprint reader and a 12.1 inch screen with XGA display. In addition to that, an integrated digitizer and an EMR pen are also available. The weight of the tablet PC is only 3.5 pounds which makes it easy for people to carry in a briefcase or an oversized handbag.
Its sleek compact design, a pointing device and a prolific keyboard make it look like one of the ultralight ventures by IBM/Lenovo. The bottom half of the clamshell contains the power button, while the display also has a power button, so that the tablet PC can be powered in both tablet and standard positions. The keyboard colours match the colour of the exteriors with the Enter Key being the sole exception as it is purple in colour.
Intel’s Centrino technology empowers the X41 with the PCI Express 915 chipset. The Intel 758 processor performs the job of running internet applications with top speed and the usage of internet graphics make it viable to perform all office applications. The battery runtime is estimated at three hours which makes it pretty competitive.
The fingerprint reader makes it easy for a user as the person does not have to remember passwords and just has to swipe his finger to boot the computer and start working on windows.
One can say that it has been a pretty remarkable first attempt by IBM into the Tablet PC domain and their venture can undeniably called successful.
