Archos has decided to launch its own Android Smartphone

The company will add mobile phone functionality to the IMTs and will also use Google’s Android operating system. This is a strategic move by the company. This was quite essential also for Archos as its rivals are also focusing on enhancing their mobile computing devices. The competition is stiffer now and it’s imperative for any mobile device maker to upgrade its existing product line.
Archos is aiming at ‘converged device’ market with its new plans. Essentially, features common to a PC and a smartphone will both be added to existing IMTs like the Archos 7 Internet Media Tablet 320GB. hThe end result with be a product residing somewhere between smartphones and full ledged notebooks. Below are the key features that Archos will include in the future IMTs:

• More compact design and impressive battery life (up to 7 hours of video playback)
• 3.5G 7.2 Mb/s HSUPA
