LG Agreed to Use MS Windows Mobile Operating System on 50 Phones
By Jenny • Feb 18th, 2009 • Category: UncategorizedSouth Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has recently agreed to use the Microsoft’s new Windows Mobile operating system on 50 of its models. This will bolster Microsoft’s goal of getting a bigger mobile phone market share. Microsoft dominates the PC world with its software, but the company fails to earn number one position in the mobile phone business. It stands at third position and is unable to beat Nokia’s Symbian and Research In Motion (the BlackBerry maker).
By integrating with LG, MS feels confident about its plans to extend the Windows brand to smartphones despite the fact that the LG is relatively small player in the smartphone market, with only a few notable models like the LG KF900 Prada II. Microsoft has also announced the release of its next version of Windows Mobile operating system named Windows Mobile 6.5. The company claims that this one addresses all the issues that were prevalent in previous Windows Mobile OSes. The version 6.5 will feature more user friendly interface. The drop down menus has been replaced with icons so that the user can access all the features instantly without searching for the in menus or sub-menus. However, the Windows Mobile 6.5 still lacks the multi-touch feature, which is now preferred by majority of the mobile phone users.
To bolster its mobile business profits Microsoft will be offering a free service along with the Windows Mobile service. The free service will offer the users backup services for mobile data. Users will be able to backup and store personal information, contact lists and photos onto Microsoft servers.
